Our History
North Central Community Based Services (NCCBS) was established in early 1994 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving communities in northern New Mexico. Its historical mission combined charitable, educational, and community social services, with particular attention to children, youth, and families.
NCCBS grew out of grassroots efforts to respond to the needs of geographically isolated communities. The organization sought to bring resources and services together across the region, where individual communities might not have had sufficient funding or capacity to provide them independently.
Community-Led Solutions
The organization’s approach emphasized local participation: community members should help identify local problems and participate in developing and implementing solutions. NCCBS also emphasized culturally competent services, local training, and capacity building.
Supporting Youth and Families
According to the archived 2016 homepage, youth empowerment was a particular focus of NCCBS. The organization described its work as part of a system of care incorporating mental health and prevention services, guided by a board representing its diverse constituency.
